A utility to convert and copy a file

Create a large file with dd

Will create a 3GB file filled with random data. To adjust the file size just do the math between "bs"(block size) and "count". The block size is in kilobytes
dd if=/dev/random of=myfile.dat bs=4096 count=750


Show progress of dd


Start the dd process and put it in the background. Make note of the dd PID so that you can get it's status
dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdb &

Retrieve dd progress by issuing:
kill -SIGUSR1 <dd PID>
